Who is Yann Somou?

Hey fellow idiot, I am Yann Somou. I am a moany, prick of an author - no disputing that. But a funny one. Think of me as your guide to navigating modern idiocy.

If you haven’t worked it out already, 'Yann Somou' is a pen name as well as an anagram of the word 'anonymous'.

Why go anonymous?

Well, I feel that our daily interactions with people show that manners are on their way out the door - nice people seem to be more of a rarity. And I want to call it out - tell idiots they’re being idiots. Unfortunately, when idiots are provoked, they frequently prefer to hit out at whoever provoked them instead of considering the merit of what has just been said to them. This normally takes the form of a frustratingly accurate, “But YOU do/don’t do it!!”

So, I’ve gone anonymous for the time being to take the author out of the equation. I think it would be useful for people to read my words and have no other option than to consider them, without the distraction of a real living person having said them.

More on the why…

I do genuinely believe we are all collectively treating each other worse than ever before. We talk to each other like shit and drive like dickheads. We leave piss on the toilet seat. We shake hands as if they’ve turned into floppy fish. We treat money as the be-all and end-all.

I think this is down to us slowly losing touch with our own humanity. In other words, we care more about ourselves than the person next to us.

Sure, capitalism and technology are partly to blame.

But at the end of the day, if we don’t start treating each other a little better, we’re all truly fucked. There’s no way in hell we’ll be able to work together long enough to resolve the catastrophic, complicated problems coming humanity’s way.

I concluded that one way in which we might start being nicer to each other is by realising that no one is innocent of being an idiot from time to time. And believe me, it is impossible to read the upcoming posts on here and not realise at least one or two ways we’ve all started to not give a shit about our fellow human. 

My hope is that instead of doing what we normally do and being little bitches when confronted with the truth, we’ll use all the guaranteed reality checks in these posts to become better people who are more aware of how their actions affect others.

Plus, I’m reliably informed that what I write is bloody hilarious. So there’s that as well.
